Join me celebrating a new grant from NIH Blueprint MedTech program as a PI! Our team has won an award of $2.27 million over three years from NIH (NINDS), in addition to $640K for translational supplement. The program aims to fund our research translating our technology from early-stage development to readiness for first-in-human clinical studies.
Peripartum brain injury produces devastating life-long disabilities with enormous economic and societal costs. However, the current clinical standard, electronic fetal heart rate monitoring, has poor accuracy in predicting childhood neurologic injury. Wearable ultrasound and photoacoustic device that would offer continuous and autonomous monitoring of fetal brain oxygenation and labor progress.
Our interdisciplinary team will tackle the challenge with engineering (Jeeun Kang, PhD, Emad Boctor, PhD, Iulian Iordachita, PhD), science (Raymond C. Koehler, PhD, Zeng-jin Yang, MD, PhD), and clinics (Ernest M. Graham, MD, Jennifer Lee, MD) at Hopkins with strong business consultation (Rodolfo Finocchi, MBA).
